Chief Slater is '1 of only 18' NSA military professional translators (Russian).
As a Chief, he instituted the first-ever Chief's Charge Book, drove standup of first Info Ops Aggressor Squadron at
Nellis AFB, and integrated ANG associate units into AIA Award Programs. As Command Chief, 480th Intel Wing, he built
a leadership course based on Starship Troopers. Selected 380th Air Expeditionary Wing CCM in UAE, he excelled as
Senior Enlisted Advisor for 8000 deployed Airmen. He became first-ever and 'only' Intel Chief selected as AAC 1st Fighter Wing
CCM, and quickly set benchmark for all fueled aircraft and trained with EOD. He was selected as first-ever CCM for USAF's
1st Cyberspace NAF - 24th Air Force. He led 24th AF to 18 MAJCOM and 3 Air Force level awards. He was instrumental
in the rise of Senior NCO eduation - 90% of MSgts and 100% of MSgt-selectees got CCAF degrees (AF avg. was only 70%).
He was selected as 1st U.S. Cyber Command Air Force Senior Enlisted Advisor, serving General Alexander and
Admiral Rogers. He broadened the impact of career advancement programs, and he secured a position for the 1st USAF
enlisted intern at the FBI. Chief Slater served nearly 32 years (1984-2015) leaving an indelible USAF legacy.
Chief Slater has participated in various military operations in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and
OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM following the events of 9/11 and is the recipient of the Bronze Star.
In 2011, Chief Slater wrote and published, Old School is Good School - 'Back to Basics' Leadership Lessons, drawing
on his many years of experience in delivering leadership and followship lessons to his peers and subordinates
based on events from the life of an Airman.
His education accomplishments include an Associates Degree in Applied Science (Interpreting and Translating) from
the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF), a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies (emphasis in Russian) from
Excelsior College and a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice (emphasis in Emergency Management) also from Excelsior College.
Upon his retirement, Chief Slater completed the requirements to become certifiecd as a Texas educational professional
and is currently employed as a 6th grade (Middle School) Math teacher.
In his spare time, Chief Slater enjoys playing golf and riding his motorcycle. He lives in San Antonio with his wife
Linda and their youngest son.
He has served on the Handgun Safety Training Corporation Board of Directors since January 2016.
